Position overview

Our client is seeking an experienced private funds attorney to lead the development of practical knowledge resources and training for a sophisticated asset management practice. This Boston-based role combines deep fund experience with the opportunity to shape how attorneys maintain and apply forms, precedents, and market knowledge.

The Work

  • Develop the private funds group’s knowledge management strategy in collaboration with practice leaders and the broader knowledge management team, then guide implementation of agreed priorities.
  • Assess, prioritize, and improve forms, checklists, precedent documents, and other practice resources, ensuring materials remain useful and reflect legal, regulatory, and market developments.
  • Identify which client-facing knowledge deliverables should be created, revised, or updated, including resources supporting sponsor-side fund formation and institutional investor representation.
  • Monitor private funds market developments and translate relevant changes into updated tools, processes, and guidance for the practice.
  • Build and enhance training on knowledge resources, precedent and forms libraries, and related systems for attorneys, paralegals, and other staff.
  • Coordinate knowledge initiatives across related asset management practices and firm-wide working groups, sharing and adopting effective approaches.
  • Evaluate third-party legal and market resources and recommend solutions that complement the practice’s strategy.
  • The position is primarily non-billable, with billable client deliverables expected to account for no more than about one quarter of the attorney’s time.

What You Bring

  • J.D. and 10–15 years of relevant private funds or asset management practice experience, including sponsor-side fund formation and institutional investor representation.
  • Experience working in a large law firm; a combination of in-house and large law firm experience may be considered, with at least five years in a large firm preferred.
  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction for the position.
  • Strong drafting and writing ability, including familiarity with partnership agreements and other fundraising agreements.
  • Excellent research and communication skills, with the ability to analyze competing approaches and guide stakeholders toward consensus and implementation.
  • Strong organization, project management, and systematizing skills, with careful attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
  • Comfort using internet and intranet technologies, and data analysis and management skills or an openness to developing them.
