Our client is seeking a Tax Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join a growing tax practice in Palo Alto. The role is suited to an attorney with strong technical tax skills, sound research and writing abilities, and an interest in working directly with clients on complex and often novel matters.
The Work
- Apply technical tax analysis to strategic and private equity M&A transactions, contributing research and written work product on issues arising throughout the deal process.
- Work on tax matters connected to capital markets transactions, including spin-offs and initial public offerings.
- Contribute to investment fund formation matters, addressing tax considerations relevant to fund structures and formation work.
- Support tax work involving real estate matters, including REIT transactions and issues.
- Engage directly with clients and collaborate with colleagues, with an emphasis on clear oral communication and productive face-to-face interaction.
- Participate in public speaking opportunities, including at large national tax conferences.
What You Bring
- Three to six years of experience as a tax associate; candidates from law school classes 2020–2023 are being considered.
- A strong understanding of technical tax law appropriate to the candidate’s experience level.
- Excellent tax research and legal writing skills.
- Experience with one or more of strategic M&A, private equity M&A, capital markets transactions, investment fund formation, or real estate and REIT matters.
- Strong analytical and oral communication skills.
- Top academic credentials and the ability and desire to approach difficult, novel problems creatively.
- Interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for direct client interaction, public speaking, and in-person collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated annual compensation range is $260,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and operational considerations, with health care, retirement benefits, paid time off, parental leave, basic life insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, and discretionary performance-based bonuses.
