Our client is seeking an associate with 2–3 years of relevant experience to work on consequential energy infrastructure and regulatory matters. Based in San Francisco, the preferred location, or in Seattle or Portland, you will support a nationally recognized energy practice serving clients across the evolving Western energy landscape.
The Work
- Advise clients on Western state energy regulation and policy, with occasional matters involving other state and federal frameworks.
- Support developers, independent power producers, utilities, and other market participants in regulatory proceedings, compliance matters, and agency interactions.
- Work on regulatory issues involving electric transmission and grid infrastructure, generation and storage projects, ratemaking, and change-of-control proceedings.
- Address interconnection and large-load issues, including the complex energy needs of data centers and other large energy consumers.
- Assist with matters involving natural gas infrastructure, related regulatory frameworks, and the climate and environmental attributes of power supply.
- Contribute regulatory analysis and due diligence to energy infrastructure transactions and project development.
- Conduct legal research and prepare regulatory filings and client memoranda while collaborating across practices on infrastructure development, regulatory strategy, and energy-transition matters.
What You Bring
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Two to three years of relevant experience in energy regulation, project development, or energy infrastructure matters.
- Admission to practice in California or another relevant U.S. jurisdiction.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Experience with electric and/or natural gas regulation or infrastructure matters.
- Familiarity with interconnection, grid infrastructure, or energy project development.
- Large law firm, government agency, or energy industry experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with hydropower licensing or other energy infrastructure permitting is beneficial, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
The firm-stated annual salary range is $215,000–$290,000, and eligible full-time employees may qualify for an annual discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
