Our client is seeking an associate with 3–6 years of relevant experience to join a substantial FERC regulatory practice in Portland. The work centers on complex energy regulation and also reaches growing data center, interconnection, and energy infrastructure matters.
The Work
- Advise electric and natural gas utilities, energy developers, and market participants on matters arising under the Federal Power Act and Natural Gas Act.
- Represent clients in FERC regulatory proceedings, including matters involving electric transmission rates and incentives, wholesale energy markets, and regulatory compliance.
- Address interconnection and large-load issues, including complex energy needs associated with data centers and other significant loads.
- Support natural gas pipeline matters involving certification, rates, and compliance, as well as regulatory aspects of energy infrastructure transactions.
- Research legal and regulatory issues, draft filings, and manage agency interactions while maintaining direct client contact and meaningful responsibility.
- Collaborate across practices on infrastructure, energy-transition, and data center-related matters.
What You Bring
- Three to six years of relevant legal experience, including meaningful experience with FERC regulatory matters.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to practice in the relevant U.S. jurisdiction.
- Experience with electric and/or natural gas regulatory work.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, including the ability to develop clear regulatory filings.
- Experience in a large law firm or in government, such as FERC or a state commission.
- Familiarity with interconnection or energy infrastructure development is valued; hydropower licensing experience is beneficial but not required.
- Interest in the intersection of regulation, infrastructure investment, and emerging energy demands, including data centers.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated annual salary range is $215,000–$315,000, with actual pay based on job-related factors; eligible full-time employees may also receive an annual discretionary bonus and benefits.
