Position overview

Our client is seeking an associate with 1–3 years of experience to advise on data, privacy, and cybersecurity issues in transactions in Austin. Work alongside corporate and transactional teams on questions that increasingly influence deal structure, risk allocation, and commercial terms.

The Work

  • Advise on privacy, data processing, and cybersecurity issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and other commercial and strategic transactions.
  • Work alongside corporate and transactional teams to identify data-related risks in live deals and develop clear, practical guidance for deal teams and clients.
  • Shape and negotiate data provisions in transaction documents, addressing how data is used, transferred, and controlled and what happens if issues arise.
  • Support transactions involving companies in artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, software, and fintech.
  • Translate evolving regulatory issues into advice that helps clients and deal teams assess the impact on a transaction.

What You Bring

  • 1–3 years of legal experience, with meaningful transactional exposure.
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, or technology transactions.
  • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and strong academic credentials.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment in assessing how privacy and data issues affect a live transaction.
  • Regulatory policy or enforcement experience is a plus.
  • CIPP certification is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated salary range is $225,000–$260,000 based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may be awarded.
