Position overview

Our client is seeking an experienced legal cite-checking professional to help protect the accuracy and reliability of litigation work product, including AI-assisted drafts. This remote contract role is available to candidates residing in eligible states, including Alaska, and supports legal teams working across multiple matters and deadlines.

The Work

  • Review briefs, motions, memoranda, pleadings, discovery responses, and court filings to verify citations, quotations, pinpoint references, grammar, formatting, and compliance with applicable court requirements.
  • Validate cases, statutes, regulations, court rules, legislative history, administrative materials, and secondary sources using legal research platforms; confirm cited authorities remain current and good law.
  • Examine AI-assisted and other technology-generated drafts for fabricated, hallucinated, inaccurate, unsupported, or misattributed legal authorities, quotations, and factual assertions before use or filing.
  • Check tables of authorities and contents, hyperlinks, exhibits, appendices, and record citations for accuracy, completeness, and proper cross-referencing.
  • Work with litigation teams to support court deadlines and filing requirements, including quality-control review of documents before submission to federal, state, and administrative courts.
  • Use document comparison, proofreading, and editing tools to identify revisions, inconsistencies, citation problems, and formatting discrepancies; support improvements to review procedures and workflows.
  • As needed, assist with deadline tracking, docket records, redactions, production quality checks, court-activity monitoring, and communication of procedural updates.

What You Bring

  • At least five years of law-firm cite-checking experience, preferably at a mid-sized or large firm, with demonstrated experience reviewing complex legal documents.
  • Advanced knowledge of The Bluebook and other citation references, together with a strong grasp of legal terminology, research methods, court procedures, and citation rules.
  • Ability to verify legal authorities and pinpoint citations, confirm quotations and attribution, and identify unsupported or inaccurate legal and factual content in AI-assisted drafts.
  • Experience with legal research databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, or PACER, as well as electronic filing systems and court-specific requirements.
  • Strong proofreading, editing, grammar, punctuation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, document management systems, and legal document comparison tools; familiarity with AI-assisted legal technology is valuable.
  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of a paralegal program preferred, or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing assignments, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing workloads and deadlines.
  • Must reside in an eligible state: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania (subject to jurisdiction-specific requirements), Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C., or West Virginia.
