Position overview

Our client is seeking an experienced legal document reviewer for a remote contract role supporting litigation teams. The work combines rigorous citation and authority verification with careful review of AI-assisted content, helping ensure that complex legal filings are accurate, properly supported, and ready for submission.

The Work

  • Review briefs, motions, memoranda, pleadings, discovery responses, and court filings for citation accuracy, grammatical correctness, and consistent formatting.
  • Verify cases, statutes, regulations, court rules, legislative history, administrative materials, and secondary sources; confirm quotations, attribution, and pinpoint citations.
  • Use citators and legal research platforms to confirm authorities are current and remain good law, applying The Bluebook and applicable court, local, and judge-specific requirements.
  • Examine AI-assisted and technology-generated research, summaries, and drafts for fabricated, incomplete, inaccurate, unsupported, or misattributed authorities and factual assertions.
  • Check tables of authorities and contents, hyperlinks, exhibits, appendices, and record citations for completeness and accurate cross-referencing.
  • Use tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, and PACER, along with document comparison and proofreading software, to support careful review.
  • Coordinate with litigation teams on filing deadlines and pre-submission quality checks; as needed, support docket records, deadline tracking, redactions, production checks, and monitoring court activity.

What You Bring

  • At least five years of law firm cite-checking experience, preferably at a mid-sized or large firm.
  • Demonstrated experience proofreading and cite-checking complex legal documents with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook, citation references, legal terminology, research methods, and court procedures.
  • Ability to validate legal authorities, quotations, and supporting materials and identify unsupported or fabricated content in AI-assisted work.
  • Experience with legal research databases, electronic court filing systems, and federal and state court rules and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, document management systems, and legal document comparison tools.
  • Strong English grammar, editing, written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • A bachelor’s degree and completion of a paralegal program are preferred, or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and experience.
  • Candidates must reside in an eligible jurisdiction; California is included, and some locations may have jurisdiction-specific restrictions.
