Position overview

Our client is seeking a Renewable Energy Tax Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its transactional tax practice in Houston. The associate will work with tax lawyers on sophisticated renewable energy matters and help clients navigate the evolving tax rules affecting the clean energy transition.

The Work

  • Advise clients on qualification for renewable energy tax credits, including beginning-of-construction requirements and prevailing wage and apprenticeship rules under Internal Revenue Code Sections 45 and 48.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions involving renewable energy assets or businesses, working with transactional tax lawyers on tax issues arising in the deals.
  • Contribute to tax equity financings by supporting the tax analysis and structuring work involved in renewable energy transactions.
  • Assist with tax credit transfers, helping clients navigate the tax considerations relevant to transferring credits.
  • Support joint ventures and other renewable energy transactions, applying relevant tax rules to transaction structures and client objectives.
  • Work directly with clients on tax credit qualification and related transactional questions, with meaningful client responsibility from the outset.

What You Bring

  • Three to six years of experience as an associate in a transactional tax practice.
  • Experience advising on or analyzing renewable energy tax credit qualification under Internal Revenue Code Sections 45 and 48.
  • Knowledge of beginning-of-construction, prevailing wage, and apprenticeship requirements relevant to renewable energy tax credits.
  • Experience supporting transactional tax work involving M&A, tax equity financings, tax credit transfers, or joint ventures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with tax lawyers on varied, sophisticated matters and engage with clients on evolving tax issues.
