Position overview

Our client is seeking a senior associate or counsel-level energy attorney to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Anchorage. This role centers on complex power transactions, wholesale electricity markets, and the energy demands of large-scale digital infrastructure, with substantial responsibility for leading matters and developing client relationships.

The Work

  • Lead drafting and negotiation of bespoke power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, and complex interconnection arrangements for developers, utilities, and corporate energy buyers.
  • Advise clients on electric market design and participation in RTOs and ISOs, including capacity markets, large-load and generator interconnection policies, and market participation in PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
  • Represent clients in high-stakes proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
  • Counsel clients on federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and strategies for procuring carbon-free energy.
  • Work on power procurement and infrastructure matters supporting data centers and other large-scale digital infrastructure, collaborating with clients that include developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
  • Contribute to client relationship management and practice development, including thought leadership on digital infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and the energy transition.
  • Guide and oversee associates, supporting the quality of work product and their professional development.

What You Bring

  • At least six years of energy law experience; the role is suited to an attorney with experience in the 6–12 year range.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactions and regulatory filings from inception through completion with minimal partner supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of the Federal Power Act, wholesale power markets, and power transaction structures.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, or interconnection arrangements.
  • Experience advising on RTO/ISO market design, capacity markets, interconnection policies, or market participation.
  • FERC regulatory experience, including proceedings or compliance matters involving market-based rates, qualifying facilities, or exempt wholesale generators.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice, or eligibility for admission on motion, in Alaska.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $245,000–$420,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
