Our client is seeking an experienced energy attorney to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Portland. This counsel-level opportunity is designed for a practitioner who can lead complex transactions and regulatory matters with minimal partner oversight, while helping clients address the evolving energy needs of digital infrastructure and the broader energy transition.
The Work
- Lead the drafting and negotiation of bespoke power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, and related power arrangements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
- Structure and negotiate complex interconnection arrangements for large-load customers, generators, and data center projects, coordinating the commercial and regulatory considerations involved.
- Advise clients on electric market design and participation within RTOs and ISOs, including capacity market mechanisms and large-load and generator interconnection policies in PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
- Represent clients in high-stakes proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and manage regulatory filings from inception through completion.
- Counsel on wholesale power market compliance, including market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
- Advise on federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.
- Build client relationships and contribute to practice development and thought leadership in digital infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and the energy transition.
- Provide guidance and oversight to associates, supporting excellent work product and their professional development.
What You Bring
- At least six years of experience practicing energy law; experience within the 6–12-year range is targeted.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex energy transactions and regulatory filings from inception through completion with limited partner supervision.
- Strong knowledge of the Federal Power Act, wholesale power markets, and power transaction structures.
- Experience drafting and negotiating power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, or comparable power transactions.
- Experience advising on RTO/ISO market design, interconnection, or market participation issues.
- Experience representing clients before FERC and advising on wholesale-market regulatory compliance.
- Strong client-service, communication, and collaborative skills, with an interest in practice development and mentoring.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission, or eligibility for admission by waiver, in Oregon.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated salary range is $245,000–$420,000, depending on qualifications and experience, and the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, personal medical and parental leave, and family care benefits.
