Our client is seeking a senior, counsel-level attorney with at least six years of energy law experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Washington, D.C. This opportunity involves leading complex power transactions and regulatory matters at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition.
The Work
- Lead drafting and negotiation of bespoke power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, and complex interconnection arrangements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
- Manage complex energy transactions and regulatory filings from inception through completion, exercising substantial ownership with minimal partner supervision.
- Advise clients on electric market design and participation in RTOs and ISOs, including capacity market mechanisms and large-load and generator interconnection policies in PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
- Represent clients in significant proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
- Counsel on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies, including matters supporting digital and energy infrastructure.
- Participate in client relationship management and practice development, including contributing to thought leadership on digital infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and the energy transition.
- Provide guidance and oversight to associates, supporting high-quality work product and their professional development.
What You Bring
- At least six years of experience practicing energy law; the role is intended for an experienced senior or counsel-level attorney.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex transactions and regulatory filings with limited partner supervision.
- Deep knowledge of the Federal Power Act, wholesale power markets, and power transaction structures.
- Experience drafting and negotiating power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, or interconnection arrangements.
- Knowledge of RTO/ISO market design and related capacity market, market participation, and interconnection issues; familiarity with PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, or CAISO is relevant.
- Experience representing clients in FERC proceedings and advising on energy regulatory compliance.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice, or eligibility to waive into practice, in the jurisdiction of the Washington, D.C. office.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated annual compensation range is $245,000–$420,000, based on qualifications and experience, and the position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, personal medical and parental leave, and family care benefits.
