Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in New York City. This role works at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition, advising on power procurement, electric markets, and the regulatory frameworks shaping energy infrastructure.

The Work

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and bespoke energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
  • Counsel clients on power strategies supporting digital infrastructure, including data center development and energy procurement.
  • Advise on electric market design and participation in RTOs and ISOs, including capacity market mechanisms and market rules.
  • Address large-load and generator interconnection policies in markets including PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on related regulatory matters.
  • Counsel on compliance involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
  • Advise on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.

What You Bring

  • 3–6 years of experience practicing energy law; a mix of regulatory and transactional experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Power Act, power market mechanics, and power transaction structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft bespoke energy contracts, including power purchase or energy service agreements.
  • Experience advising on electric markets, RTO/ISO issues, or energy regulatory matters.
  • Experience representing clients in FERC proceedings or counseling on FERC compliance is relevant to the role.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice in New York, or eligibility to waive into the jurisdiction.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $190,000–$390,000, based on qualifications and experience, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
