Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel associate with 3–6 years of energy-law experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in San Francisco. The role brings together energy transactions, electric-market issues, and federal regulatory work at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition.

The Work

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and customized energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers, including large technology companies and data center developers.
  • Advise clients on electric-market design and participation in RTOs and ISOs, including capacity-market mechanisms and evolving market rules.
  • Address large-load and generator interconnection policies in markets including PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and provide counsel on related federal energy regulation.
  • Advise on compliance matters involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
  • Counsel clients on emerging federal energy policy, renewable-energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.

What You Bring

  • 3–6 years of experience practicing energy law; a mix of regulatory and transactional experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act, electric-power market mechanics, and power transaction structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft bespoke energy contracts, including power purchase or energy service agreements.
  • Experience or demonstrated capability advising on energy regulatory matters and engaging with federal proceedings.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice in California, or eligibility to waive into the jurisdiction.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $190,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and experience, and the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
