Our client is seeking a midlevel associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Phoenix. The position sits at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition, advising on power strategies, energy transactions, and the state and federal regulatory frameworks shaping energy infrastructure.
The Work
- Negotiate power purchase agreements and customized energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers, including technology companies and data center developers.
- Advise clients on electric-market design and participation in regional transmission organizations and independent system operators, including PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
- Work on capacity-market mechanisms and policies governing large-load and generator interconnections.
- Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on related regulatory strategy.
- Counsel on compliance involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
- Advise clients on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.
What You Bring
- 3–6 years of experience practicing energy law; a combination of regulatory and transactional experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and electric power-market mechanics.
- Knowledge of power transaction structures and the regulatory considerations affecting energy procurement.
- Demonstrated ability to draft bespoke energy contracts, including power purchase or energy service agreements.
- Strong legal analysis, drafting, and communication skills suited to transactional work and regulatory matters.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice, or eligibility for admission by waiver, in Arizona.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $190,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
