Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Bellevue, Washington. The role works at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition, advising on power strategies, sophisticated energy transactions, and the state and federal regulatory frameworks that shape energy infrastructure.

The Work

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and custom energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers, including technology companies and data center developers.
  • Advise clients on electric market design and participation in organized markets, with a particular emphasis on PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
  • Counsel clients on capacity market mechanisms, large-load and generator interconnection policies, and related market participation issues.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance matters involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
  • Provide guidance on federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.
  • Work with clients on power strategies for digital infrastructure and energy transition projects, including the negotiation and regulatory considerations that affect project development.

What You Bring

  • Three to six years of experience practicing energy law.
  • Experience with a mix of energy regulatory and transactional work is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and electric power market mechanics.
  • Knowledge of power transaction structures and the ability to draft bespoke energy contracts.
  • Ability to advise on regulatory issues and represent clients in agency proceedings.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice, or eligibility to waive in, in the jurisdiction of the office.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $190,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and experience; the role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and benefits including a 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, paid holidays, and family care benefits.
