Our client is seeking a midlevel associate attorney with 3–6 years of energy-law experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Portland. The role focuses on the evolving intersection of digital infrastructure, energy transition, power markets, and federal energy regulation.
The Work
- Negotiate power purchase agreements and custom energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers, including technology companies and data center developers.
- Advise clients on electric market design and participation in regional transmission organizations and independent system operators, with particular relevance to PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
- Counsel on capacity market mechanisms, large-load and generator interconnection policies, and related developments affecting energy infrastructure projects.
- Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance with market-based rate programs.
- Advise on regulatory matters involving qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
- Counsel clients on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.
What You Bring
- Three to six years of experience practicing energy law.
- A mix of regulatory and transactional energy experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Federal Power Act, power-market mechanics, and power transaction structures.
- Demonstrated ability to draft bespoke energy contracts, including power purchase or energy service agreements.
- Ability to advise clients on electric market issues and energy regulatory matters.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice in Oregon, or eligibility to waive into the jurisdiction.

Compensation & Benefits
The position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and includes a 401(k), medical, dental, and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, up to ten paid holidays, and family care benefits.
Stated annual compensation is $190,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
