Position overview

Our client is seeking a mid-level associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its nationally recognized Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Washington, D.C. The work combines power transactions, electric-market counseling, and federal energy regulation at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition.

The Work

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and customized energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers, including technology companies and data center developers.
  • Advise clients on electric-market design and participation within RTOs and ISOs, including capacity-market mechanisms, large-load policies, and generator interconnection.
  • Counsel on market developments and regulatory issues across PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on related compliance matters.
  • Address FERC matters involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators, and interlocks.
  • Advise on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.

What You Bring

  • Three to six years of experience practicing energy law; a combination of regulatory and transactional experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act, electric power-market mechanics, and power transaction structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate bespoke energy contracts.
  • Experience advising on power markets, RTO/ISO issues, or energy regulation is valued.
  • Strong legal analysis, writing, and communication skills suited to complex regulatory and transactional work.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice in the District of Columbia, or eligibility to waive in.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual salary range is $190,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and experience; the position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and offers a 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, up to ten paid holidays, and family care benefits.
