Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice in Seattle. The role works at the intersection of digital infrastructure and the energy transition, advising on commercial power arrangements and the regulatory frameworks shaping energy infrastructure.

The Work

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and customized energy service agreements for developers, utilities and corporate buyers, including technology companies and data center developers.
  • Advise clients on electric market design and participation in RTO/ISO markets, with particular exposure to PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT and CAISO.
  • Counsel on capacity market mechanisms, large-load and generator interconnection policies, and related market rules.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance matters involving market-based rate programs, qualifying facilities, exempt wholesale generators and interlocks.
  • Advise on emerging federal energy policy, renewable energy integration and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.
  • Work with clients on power strategies supporting digital infrastructure and energy-transition projects.

What You Bring

  • Three to six years of experience practicing energy law.
  • Experience spanning energy regulatory and transactional work is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act, electric power market mechanics and power transaction structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate bespoke energy contracts.
  • Ability to advise on power markets, regulatory requirements and energy procurement matters.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice in Washington, or eligibility to waive into the jurisdiction.

Compensation & Benefits

The position is hybrid and offers a stated annual salary range of $190,000–$390,000, dependent on qualifications and experience, plus an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, paid holidays and family care benefits.
