Position overview

Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–4 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its San Francisco practice. Applicants must be registered with the patent bar and hold an advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.

The Work

  • Work on patent prosecution matters, drawing on prior law firm prosecution experience and a strong technical foundation.
  • Apply expertise in cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or bioengineering to patent matters involving those disciplines.
  • Contribute scientific knowledge in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, or biophysics to related prosecution work.
  • Bring a digital-health-focused technical background to patent prosecution matters in that area.
  • Use strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills in carrying out the responsibilities of a patent prosecution practice.

What You Bring

  • One to four years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm.
  • Membership in the patent bar.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
  • A background in at least one of the following: cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or a digital-health-focused discipline.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior academic credentials.
  • Prior patent agent experience is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The position offers a stated salary range of $225,000–$310,000 based on year classification, with discretionary merit bonuses also possible.
