Position overview

Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–4 years of patent prosecution law firm experience to join a practice focused on life sciences and related technologies in Palo Alto. The role requires an advanced degree and membership in the patent bar, with prior patent agent experience preferred.

The Work

  • Contribute to patent prosecution matters involving innovations in life sciences and related technical fields.
  • Apply scientific training to patent matters spanning cell and molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and bioengineering.
  • Support prosecution work involving organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, and biophysics.
  • Bring expertise in digital health-focused disciplines to patent prosecution matters where that technical background is relevant.
  • Use strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills in carrying out patent prosecution work and collaborating with others.
  • Build on prior patent agent experience, if applicable, in a law firm patent prosecution practice.

What You Bring

  • 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm.
  • Membership in the patent bar.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
  • A background in one or more of the following: cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or a digital health-focused discipline.
  • Prior patent agent experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior academic credentials.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm states a salary range of $225,000–$310,000 based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
