Position overview

Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–4 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its Washington, DC practice. The role calls for an advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline, patent bar membership, and strong communication skills.

The Work

  • Contribute to patent prosecution matters involving life sciences and related technologies, applying scientific knowledge to the legal work.
  • Work with technologies grounded in areas such as cell and molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics.
  • Bring technical expertise in bioengineering, organic or medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, or biophysics to prosecution matters.
  • Support work involving digital-health-focused disciplines as part of a practice spanning a range of scientific and technical fields.
  • Use clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication in carrying out patent prosecution responsibilities.

What You Bring

  • 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm.
  • Membership in the patent bar.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant scientific or technical field.
  • A background in one or more of the following: cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or a digital-health-focused discipline.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior academic credentials.
  • Prior patent agent experience is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

A stated salary range of $225,000–$310,000 based on year classification.

Discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
