Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–4 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its San Diego team. The role calls for an advanced degree, patent bar membership, and a strong scientific background in life sciences or a related technical discipline.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, applying prior law-firm prosecution experience to the team's life sciences and related technology work.
- Bring technical understanding of fields such as cell and molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and bioengineering to patent matters.
- Work with technologies grounded in organic and medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, and digital-health-focused disciplines, as relevant to your background.
- Use strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills in carrying out patent prosecution work and collaborating with colleagues.
- Apply advanced scientific training to legal work involving complex technical subject matter.
- The exact allocation of drafting, prosecution strategy, portfolio responsibilities, and direct client contact will be discussed with candidates during the process.
What You Bring
- 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- An advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
- A background in one or more of the following: cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or a digital-health-focused discipline.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Superior academic credentials.
- Prior patent agent experience is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
The position offers a stated salary range of $225,000–$310,000 based on year classification, with discretionary merit bonuses also possible.
