Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its Los Angeles practice. The position is suited to an attorney with a strong technical foundation in engineering or the physical sciences and an interest in patent prosecution involving advanced technologies.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, applying a technical background to understand inventions and their underlying engineering or scientific concepts.
- Work with patent subject matter in fields that may include artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, solid-state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, and optics.
- Bring technical knowledge from disciplines such as physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or related fields to the prosecution practice.
- Use strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to convey complex technical concepts in the context of patent prosecution work.
- Develop within a patent prosecution practice that values relevant law firm experience and technical expertise; the role’s specific case ownership and client-contact structure can be discussed during the search process.
What You Bring
- 1–2 years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- A background in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge or practical experience in artificial intelligence or machine learning and its applications, solid-state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
- An advanced degree and prior patent agent experience are preferred; candidates with a relevant bachelor’s degree will also be considered.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior academic credentials.

Compensation & Benefits
