Position overview

Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law-firm patent prosecution experience to join its Seattle practice. The opportunity is intended for an attorney with patent bar membership and a strong technical foundation in engineering, physics, or a related discipline.

The Work

  • Handle patent prosecution matters in a law-firm setting, applying prior prosecution experience to technically complex subject matter.
  • Bring technical knowledge to patent matters involving engineering and physical-sciences disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering and materials sciences.
  • Work with subject matter that may include AI and machine learning applications, solid-state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics.
  • Use relevant academic or professional experience in fields such as physics, applied physics, engineering physics, or physical chemistry to support patent prosecution work.
  • Contribute technical understanding and clear communication to prosecution matters; specific matter ownership and client-contact expectations can be discussed during the process.

What You Bring

  • 1–2 years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm.
  • Membership in the patent bar.
  • A B.S. or B.A. in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge or practical experience in AI and machine learning applications, solid-state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
  • An advanced degree and prior patent agent experience are preferred; candidates with a B.S. or B.A. and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, together with superior academic credentials.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated salary range is $225,000–$310,000, based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
