A confidential law firm is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its Boulder, Colorado team. The opportunity is intended for an attorney with patent bar membership and a background in engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, using your technical background to understand inventions and support their progression through the patent process.
- Apply knowledge from engineering, physics, chemistry, or materials science to patent matters involving complex technologies.
- Support work related to emerging and established technical fields, including AI and machine learning, semiconductors, optics, and quantum computing.
- Communicate technical and legal information clearly in writing and through professional interactions with colleagues and other matter participants.
- Develop prosecution experience across technologies such as solid state physics, nuclear physics, and related engineering disciplines.
What You Bring
- One to two years of law firm patent prosecution experience.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- A background in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Superior academic credentials.
- Practical experience or working knowledge of AI or machine learning and its applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
- An advanced degree and prior patent agent experience are preferred; candidates with a bachelor's degree and relevant experience will also be considered.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated salary range is $225,000–$310,000, based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
