Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its Boston team. Candidates should bring a strong technical foundation in engineering or a related physical science, along with patent bar membership and the ability to communicate complex subject matter clearly.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, applying prior law firm prosecution experience and a technical background in engineering or physical sciences.
- Bring expertise in fields such as electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering; physics; or materials sciences to work involving technically complex subject matter.
- Apply working knowledge or practical experience in preferred areas including AI and machine learning applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics.
- Use strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in carrying out patent prosecution work.
What You Bring
- One to two years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- A B.S. or B.A. with relevant experience; advanced degrees are preferred.
- A background in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge or practical experience in AI/ML and its applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior academic credentials.
- Prior patent agent experience is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated salary range is $225,000–$310,000, based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
