Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its New York City practice. This opportunity is intended for a registered patent practitioner with a background in engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, applying engineering or physical-science knowledge to the preparation and development of patent applications.
- Work with technical subject matter in areas such as AI and machine learning applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, and optics.
- Use your technical training to help communicate complex inventions clearly in patent application materials.
- Support the prosecution of patent matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, building on prior law firm prosecution experience.
- Develop expertise across technical subject areas aligned with your academic or professional background.
What You Bring
- One to two years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- A background in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior academic credentials.
- Working knowledge or practical experience in AI or machine learning and its applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
- An advanced degree and prior patent agent experience are preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience will also be considered.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated salary range is $225,000–$310,000, based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may be awarded.
