Our client is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–2 years of law firm patent prosecution experience to join its San Francisco practice. Candidates should be registered to practice before the patent bar and have a background in engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.
The Work
- Contribute to patent prosecution matters, applying a strong technical foundation to inventions in engineering and physical science fields.
- Bring technical knowledge to prosecution work involving areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, semiconductors, and optics.
- Work with technology areas that may include solid state physics, quantum computing, and nuclear physics.
- Use clear written and verbal communication skills to support patent prosecution work and convey technical concepts effectively.
- Apply experience from law firm patent prosecution practice while developing further depth in technically complex subject matter.
What You Bring
- One to two years of law firm patent prosecution experience.
- Membership in the patent bar.
- A degree or technical background in physics, applied physics, engineering physics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Working knowledge or practical experience in AI or machine learning and its applications, solid state physics, quantum computing, nuclear physics, semiconductors, or optics is strongly preferred.
- An advanced degree or prior patent agent experience is preferred.
- Candidates with a B.S. or B.A. and relevant experience will also be considered.

Compensation & Benefits
The stated salary range is $225,000–$310,000, based on year classification, and discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
