Position overview

Our client is seeking a mid-level Labor & Employment Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its Norfolk, Virginia office. Counsel candidates are also welcome. The employer-side practice handles complex litigation, wage-and-hour class and collective actions, mass arbitration, administrative proceedings, and client counseling.

The Work

  • Defend wage-and-hour class and collective actions, including managing discovery, interviewing witnesses, and preparing and briefing class certification issues.
  • Handle single-plaintiff employment cases in state and federal courts and arbitration, including managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, and drafting dispositive motions.
  • Support the defense of FLSA collective claims, state wage-and-hour class actions, and representative actions involving off-the-clock work, meal and rest breaks, misclassification, and notice issues.
  • Assist with mass arbitration matters by managing large volumes of individual claims, developing case strategy, and coordinating defense efforts across multiple forums.
  • Represent employer clients in administrative hearings and proceedings, respond to EEOC and state agency charges, and prepare responses to demand letters.
  • Work directly with clients on employment matters and collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on litigation strategy and practical solutions.
  • Develop experience across employers and industries that include manufacturing, logistics, retail, health care, financial services, food and beverage, and consumer products.

What You Bring

  • Three to six years of labor and employment experience; counsel candidates are also welcome to apply.
  • Experience defending employers in employment litigation in state or federal court or arbitration.
  • Knowledge of wage-and-hour litigation, including class, collective, or representative actions.
  • Strong discovery skills, including experience managing document discovery and conducting or defending depositions.
  • Ability to draft motions and other litigation briefs, including work involving class certification or dispositive issues.
  • Experience handling agency charges, administrative proceedings, demand letters, or employment-related client counseling is relevant to the practice.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm-stated salary range is $310,000–$390,000, with hours and merit bonus opportunities, benefits, and billable-hours credit for pro bono work.
