Position overview

Our client is seeking an experienced private funds attorney to help shape how a major practice group captures, maintains, and shares legal and market knowledge. This New York City role combines substantial practice experience with leadership in strategy, forms and precedent resources, training, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Work

  • Partner with Private Funds group leaders and attorneys to define a knowledge-management strategy, build consensus around priorities, and implement practical solutions that support the group’s goals.
  • Monitor private-funds market developments and legal and regulatory changes, then identify and drive timely updates to knowledge tools, resources, and processes.
  • Prioritize the creation, revision, and maintenance of client-facing knowledge deliverables, forms, checklists, precedents, and best-practice materials.
  • Help maintain and improve partnership agreements and other fundraising agreement resources so that they remain useful, current, and aligned with the group’s strategy.
  • Coordinate knowledge initiatives with related asset-management practices, firm-wide working groups, and knowledge, professional development, and practice development teams.
  • Develop and enhance training for attorneys, paralegals, and other staff on knowledge resources, precedent and forms libraries, and related systems.
  • Evaluate third-party legal and market knowledge resources and recommend options that complement the practice’s needs and direction.
  • The position is primarily non-billable and may include billable client deliverables, expected to account for no more than about one-quarter of the attorney’s time.

What You Bring

  • J.D. and 10–15 years of relevant legal practice experience, including significant private funds and asset-management experience.
  • Experience with both sponsor-side fund formation and institutional investor representation.
  • Experience working with forms, precedent documents, and knowledge-management resources; the role requires the ability to assess and improve these materials and related processes.
  • Large law firm experience; at least five years in a large law firm is preferred, and relevant experience may also include in-house roles.
  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills, including facility with partnership agreements and other fundraising agreements.
  • Ability to analyze competing approaches, build consensus, manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver accurate work with close attention to detail.
  • Comfort using internet and intranet technologies, with data analysis and management skills or willingness to develop them.

Why Consider It

This role offers meaningful influence over the knowledge strategy and working resources of a Private Funds group, with direct collaboration across related practices and firm-wide functions.

The work connects deep practice experience to practical improvements in precedents, training, and processes, while offering a primarily non-billable focus and limited billable client deliverables.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated anticipated salary range is $250,000–$375,000, and the position is eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus.
