Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel or senior patent litigation associate to join its Intellectual Property and Technology practice in Palo Alto. This position offers hands-on responsibility in complex patent disputes involving technology products and proceedings in federal district courts, before the ITC, and at the PTAB.

The Work

  • Analyze patents and prepare infringement and invalidity contentions in complex patent disputes involving clients’ products and technology.
  • Help develop case strategy and work with technical experts to assess patent issues and support litigation positions.
  • Draft briefs and other substantive filings, manage discovery, and prepare witnesses for litigation milestones.
  • Take and defend depositions, contribute to hearings, and assist with trial preparation.
  • Represent clients in district court patent litigation and, as matters require, in ITC actions and PTAB proceedings.
  • Work directly with clients and collaborate with colleagues across the firm, including on matters coordinating district court, ITC, and PTAB proceedings.

What You Bring

  • Approximately four or more years of patent litigation experience; the opportunity is intended for candidates in the midlevel-to-senior associate range.
  • A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with federal district court patent litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience before the PTAB or the International Trade Commission is a plus.
  • Ability to manage substantial responsibilities on complex matters and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Currently licensed, or currently eligible to become licensed, to practice law in the jurisdiction where applying.

Associates can take on substantial responsibility across complex disputes involving electronic devices, semiconductors, integrated circuits, and mechanical devices, with exposure to district court, ITC, and PTAB proceedings.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated salary range is $310,000–$435,000, commensurate with experience, and the position is eligible for an hours-based bonus.
