Position overview

Our client is seeking a midlevel to senior intellectual property litigation associate to join its Houston Patent Litigation team. The associate will work on complex patent disputes involving significant products and technologies, with opportunities to handle matters in federal district courts, before the International Trade Commission, and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

The Work

  • Analyze patents and develop infringement and invalidity contentions in complex patent disputes.
  • Help shape case strategy and work with technical experts to assess patents, technologies, and litigation positions.
  • Draft briefs and other substantive filings, manage discovery, and prepare witnesses for key proceedings.
  • Take and defend depositions and contribute to hearings and trial preparation.
  • Represent clients in district court patent litigation and work on matters before the International Trade Commission and Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
  • Coordinate related district court litigation, ITC actions, and PTAB proceedings as part of a broader case strategy.
  • Handle disputes involving technologies such as electronic devices, semiconductors, integrated circuits, and mechanical devices.
  • Work directly with clients while collaborating with colleagues across the firm on complex matters.

What You Bring

  • Approximately four or more years of patent litigation experience; the search targets associates generally within the 3-6 year range.
  • A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with federal district court patent litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to analyze patent issues and draft substantive litigation filings and contentions.
  • Experience managing discovery, preparing witnesses, and taking or defending depositions.
  • PTAB or International Trade Commission experience is a plus.
  • Ability to manage substantial responsibilities on complex matters and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Current license to practice law in the jurisdiction of application, or current eligibility to become licensed there.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated salary range is $310,000-$435,000, commensurate with experience, and the position is eligible for an hours-based bonus.
