Position overview

A leading investment management practice is seeking a mid-level associate with approximately four years of experience to advise on registered funds and business development companies. The role is available in Washington, D.C., New York or Chicago and offers exposure to matters spanning product formation, operations, financing and regulation.

The Work

  • Advise funds, fund sponsors, underwriters and other service providers on the structuring, offering, operation, ongoing financing and regulation of registered investment companies and business development companies.
  • Work on matters involving closed-end funds, mutual funds and ETFs, including listed, non-traded and privately offered products.
  • Support rights offerings for closed-end funds and preferred stock and other leveraging strategies for closed-end funds and business development companies.
  • Counsel on emerging registered and regulated investment company structures and strategies as the investment management market develops.
  • Provide corporate and regulatory advice to business development company boards of directors.
  • Coordinate with M&A colleagues on Investment Company Act of 1940 matters arising in asset manager transactions.

What You Bring

  • Approximately four years of relevant experience; candidates in the class years 2020 through 2022 are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with registered funds under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
  • Experience advising on business development company matters.
  • Knowledge of fund structuring, offerings, operations, financing and regulatory matters.
  • Ability to work across fund products and strategies, including closed-end funds, mutual funds and ETFs.
  • Experience in the investment management group of a peer firm is preferred.
  • A strong academic record is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual base salary range is $310,000 to $390,000, with eligibility for a discretionary year-end bonus.
