Position overview

Our client is seeking an experienced attorney for a Portland opportunity at the intersection of energy, digital infrastructure and commercial dealmaking. The work includes significant data center-related energy matters as well as traditional energy projects, including renewable generation and battery storage.

The Work

  • Draft and negotiate energy supply, development, procurement and operational agreements for clients navigating evolving energy markets.
  • Support energy project development, financing, acquisitions and asset sales, managing components of transactions and coordinating with deal teams.
  • Advise on data center-related energy needs and commercial matters involving technology companies, developers, investors, utilities and other energy market participants.
  • Counsel clients on renewable energy credit transactions and wholesale and retail energy market matters.
  • Work on matters involving renewable energy, distributed energy resources, battery storage, transmission, demand response, energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives.
  • Collaborate across regulatory, infrastructure, environmental, technology and commercial practices on energy transition and emerging technology matters.

What You Bring

  • At least three years of relevant energy transactions experience; candidates with a strong commercial transactions background and a demonstrated interest in energy will also be considered.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice in California.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, including experience handling complex commercial agreements.
  • Familiarity with state and federal energy regulatory frameworks, utility operations or renewable energy development.
  • Ability to independently manage components of deals while working collaboratively across teams.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Interest in emerging technologies, renewable energy, grid modernization and energy transition issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm-stated salary range is $225,000–$330,000; eligible full-time employees may also receive a discretionary annual bonus and access a comprehensive benefits package.
