Position overview

Our client is seeking a Palo Alto associate with 2–4 years of patent prosecution experience working with life sciences clients. This opportunity combines U.S. and foreign patent office practice with opinions, licensing, diligence, litigation support, and client counseling on sophisticated matters.

The Work

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for life sciences clients, developing experience with patent matters from application drafting through prosecution.
  • Handle U.S. and foreign patent office practice, working across patent matters with domestic and international dimensions.
  • Contribute to opinion work and due diligence projects, assessing patent-related issues in support of client matters.
  • Assist with licensing projects and litigation support, gaining exposure to a range of life sciences-focused legal work.
  • Counsel clients on varied life sciences projects and participate in sophisticated matters handled at local and national levels.

What You Bring

  • At least 2 years of patent prosecution experience, preferably within the stated 2–4 year experience range.
  • Experience working with life sciences clients.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • An advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or a biotechnical discipline.
  • Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Excellent academic credentials.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm-stated annual compensation range is $235,000–$365,000, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, paid holidays, and family care benefits.
