Position overview

Our client is seeking an associate with 4–6 years of experience to join its Washington, D.C. energy regulatory practice and data center energy team. The position combines transactional work, regulatory counseling, and advocacy for clients across the energy sector.

The Work

  • Negotiate power supply and infrastructure transactions, including matters involving data center energy needs, and advise clients on related commercial and regulatory considerations.
  • Represent clients in regulatory authorizations and administrative litigation before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state utility commissions, including drafting pleadings and briefs.
  • Support energy project development involving data centers, renewable, thermal, and nuclear generation, power transmission, oil and natural gas pipelines, and LNG export terminals.
  • Provide regulatory support for M&A, real estate, private equity, and project finance transactions, and counsel clients on compliance and strategic issues.
  • Develop policy-oriented advocacy, negotiate settlements and contracts, work with experts to prepare testimony, and participate in administrative hearings.
  • Advise on appellate litigation before federal and state courts and matters involving regional transmission organizations.

What You Bring

  • 4–6 years of experience in energy regulatory, transactional, or related legal practice.
  • Experience representing clients in data center-related transactions or regulatory proceedings is particularly relevant.
  • Experience working before FERC or state utility commissions is valued.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, including the ability to prepare pleadings and briefs.
  • Ability to synthesize unfamiliar material and work effectively in evolving regulatory and business environments.
  • Comfort interacting directly with clients and collaborating collegially with colleagues and experts.
  • Interest in developing a practice that works across energy transactional and regulatory disciplines.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual compensation range is $310,000–$390,000, depending on qualifications and operational considerations; discretionary performance-based bonuses and benefits are also offered.
