Position overview

Our AmLaw client is seeking a 3–7-year associate to join its intellectual property litigation practice in New York City, Washington, DC, or Seattle. The work spans significant disputes in federal courts and before the ITC and PTAB, with exposure to advanced technologies and opportunities to contribute across the life of a case.

The Work

  • Collaborate with partners on complex intellectual property disputes in federal district courts, International Trade Commission investigations, and Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings.
  • Research and analyze patent validity and infringement issues, develop litigation strategy, and assess issues at the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust law.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery plans, and other key case documents, with responsibility for substantive work across multiple matters.
  • Prepare for depositions, hearings, and trials by reviewing evidence, creating trial materials, and working with expert witnesses.
  • Contribute to disputes involving semiconductors, telecommunications, medical devices, software, fintech, biotechnology, and other technical fields.
  • Support appeals and amicus briefs before the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, while tracking emerging issues such as technology standards and patent misuse defenses.

What You Bring

  • 3–7 years of intellectual property litigation experience, including patent litigation in federal courts, ITC hearings, and/or PTAB proceedings.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a strong undergraduate and law school academic record.
  • Admission, or eligibility for admission, to the bar in the state where you will work.
  • A degree in the sciences or another technical background is required.
  • Strong understanding of technical subject matter such as semiconductors, software, telecommunications, medical devices, fintech, or biotechnology.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills, including the ability to draft persuasive litigation documents.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with partners, colleagues, and experts.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced litigation practice.

Compensation & Benefits

The stated annual salary range is $225,000–$330,000, with actual pay based on job-related factors; eligible full-time employees may receive a comprehensive benefits package and an annual discretionary bonus.
