Our client is seeking an associate with at least one year of experience to join its Supreme Court and appellate practice in Chicago. The role offers substantive work on high-stakes appeals, significant trial-court motions, and legal strategy, with an appellate clerkship required.
The Work
- Research and develop legal arguments for high-stakes appeals and contribute to persuasive appellate briefs across federal and state jurisdictions.
- Assist with petitions for certiorari and oppositions, merits briefs, and amicus briefs in matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and appellate courts.
- Work with trial teams on complex litigation and key motions, helping frame and preserve issues for potential appeal before the appellate phase begins.
- Contribute to dispositive-motion practice and litigation strategy in lower courts and before regulatory agencies.
- Work on disputes raising novel or challenging questions of administrative law, including litigation involving the U.S. government.
- Support matters across a range of issues, including copyright and class-action disputes, and participate in high-profile pro bono matters.
What You Bring
- At least one year of relevant experience.
- Completed appellate clerkship required.
- Excellent analytical, legal research, and writing skills.
- Ability to develop clear, persuasive arguments for appellate briefs and court submissions.
- Experience with appellate litigation at a law firm or in government is welcomed.
- Interest in high-stakes appellate matters, trial-court motions, and legal strategy.
