Our client is seeking an associate with at least one year of experience to join its Supreme Court & Appellate practice in New York City. The position offers substantive involvement in high-stakes appeals, trial-court motions and litigation strategy. Candidates must have completed an appellate clerkship; applicants with additional appellate litigation experience in a law firm or government are welcome.
The Work
- Research and draft persuasive appellate briefs and related filings in federal and state courts, developing clear arguments on complex legal issues.
- Contribute to petitions for certiorari, merits briefs and amicus briefs in matters with potentially significant legal and practical consequences.
- Work with trial teams before a matter reaches the appellate stage to frame legal issues and preserve arguments for appeal.
- Assist with complex litigation and dispositive motions in trial courts, building experience beyond briefing and argument at the appellate level.
- Support litigation and legal strategy in matters involving regulatory agencies and a broad range of industries and issues.
- Contribute to precedent-setting and pro bono matters, including disputes involving administrative law, copyrights and class actions.
What You Bring
- At least one year of legal experience.
- Completion of an appellate clerkship is required.
- Strong analytical, legal research and writing skills.
- Ability to develop precise, persuasive arguments and produce high-quality briefs and other written work.
- Appellate litigation experience at a law firm or in government is welcomed.
- Interest in high-stakes appeals, complex litigation and legal strategy.
