Our client is seeking an associate with at least one year of experience to join its Supreme Court and Appellate practice in San Francisco. The role offers substantive involvement in high-stakes appeals, trial-court motions, and legal strategy, working closely with lawyers handling matters at every stage of litigation.
The Work
- Research and draft appellate briefs, including merits and amicus briefs, and prepare petitions for certiorari in matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts.
- Contribute to legal strategy and advocacy in high-stakes appeals, helping develop clear, persuasive arguments on complex and consequential issues.
- Work with trial teams before matters reach appeal to frame and preserve issues for appellate review.
- Handle or support key trial-court motions and complex litigation, including dispositive motions and matters before regulatory agencies.
- Work on disputes involving novel or challenging administrative-law questions, including litigation against the U.S. government on behalf of businesses, state governments, educational institutions, and individuals.
- Contribute to matters across a range of issues, including copyright disputes, class actions, and high-profile pro bono cases.
What You Bring
- At least one year of relevant experience.
- Completion of an appellate clerkship is required.
- Strong analytical, legal research, and writing skills.
- Ability to contribute to appellate briefing, including the development and presentation of complex legal arguments.
- Appellate litigation experience at a law firm or in government is welcomed.
