Position overview

Our client is seeking an associate with at least one year of experience to join its Supreme Court and Appellate practice in San Diego. The role involves high-stakes appeals, significant trial-court motions, and legal strategy, and requires completion of an appellate clerkship.

The Work

  • Research and develop legal arguments for high-stakes appeals, working on matters that may involve novel or challenging questions of law.
  • Contribute to petitions for certiorari and merits briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as briefs in federal and state appellate courts.
  • Prepare amicus briefs addressing consequential legal issues across a range of industries and subject areas.
  • Work with trial teams before and during the appellate phase to frame and preserve issues for appeal.
  • Assist with complex litigation and dispositive motions in trial courts and proceedings before regulatory agencies.
  • Develop strategy in matters that may include litigation against the U.S. government, administrative-law questions, copyright disputes, and class actions.

What You Bring

  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • Completion of an appellate clerkship is required.
  • Strong analytical, legal research, and writing skills are essential.
  • Ability to contribute to appellate briefs, petitions, and legal strategy is important.
  • Appellate litigation experience at a law firm or in government service is welcomed.
