Our client is seeking an associate with at least three years of experience to join a cross-disciplinary copyright practice in New York City. The team advises technology and media clients on copyright challenges arising from digital technologies and U.S. and international copyright law, and represents clients in significant litigation and commercial matters.
The Work
- Advise technology and media companies on copyright questions involving product design, digital services, and business strategy.
- Develop compliance approaches under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and provide practical strategic counseling on copyright issues.
- Represent clients in copyright infringement litigation in federal court, including matters involving music-industry claims and emerging challenges to generative AI technology.
- Work on rate-setting matters before federal agencies and help clients assess related legal and commercial considerations.
- Negotiate business-critical content licenses and support clients on rights clearance and content-catalogue development.
- Counsel music and digital-media companies on structuring business models, data and financial reporting, and user acquisition and retention.
- Engage with clients ranging from startups to leading technology companies on matters ranging from focused product questions to complex disputes and commercial strategies.
What You Bring
- At least three years of experience in copyright law or a closely related practice.
- Experience or demonstrated capability in copyright litigation, including federal court matters.
- Knowledge of copyright issues arising from digital technologies and the U.S. copyright regime.
- Ability to advise on copyright counseling matters, including product-design or compliance questions.
- Experience with or interest in DMCA compliance and digital-media business issues.
- Capability to work on content licensing, rights clearance, or related commercial copyright matters.
- Interest or experience in music-industry, technology, media, or generative AI copyright matters.
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and communication skills appropriate for litigation and client counseling.
