Position overview

Our client is seeking an associate with at least three years of experience to join its Copyright Litigation & Counseling practice in Washington, DC. The work brings together litigation, strategic counseling, and commercial matters involving copyright, digital technologies, and the media industry.

The Work

  • Advise technology and media companies on copyright questions arising from product design, digital services, and evolving U.S. and international copyright rules.
  • Help clients develop commercial strategies for compliance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other copyright-related business needs.
  • Contribute to copyright infringement litigation in federal court, including matters involving music-industry claims and emerging challenges to generative AI technology.
  • Work on rate-setting matters before federal agencies, supporting disputes and proceedings involving copyright and content use.
  • Assist with negotiating business-critical content licenses and other copyright-related commercial arrangements.
  • Counsel music and digital media companies on business models, rights-clearance strategies, content catalogue development, and data and financial reporting.
  • Engage with a varied client base, from startups to leading technology companies, on matters ranging from focused product questions to broader legal and commercial strategy.

What You Bring

  • At least three years of legal experience, consistent with the associate position.
  • Relevant experience or knowledge in copyright litigation, counseling, or transactions.
  • Ability to analyze copyright issues involving digital technologies and U.S. and international copyright regimes.
  • Experience contributing to litigation matters, including infringement disputes or agency proceedings, is relevant to the practice.
  • Strong legal analysis and written communication skills for advising clients and supporting litigation or commercial work.
  • Ability to work across counseling, litigation, and transactional matters involving technology, media, or content businesses.

Estimated base compensation is approximately $260,000; this is an estimate, not firm-stated compensation.
